Other Recommendations
Prospective examinees are also advised to obtain a binding equipment and organization supplies such as the catalog / binder rack and/or 4 to 5 inch “D-Ring” binders, and dividers. Please be guided by the following rationale:
- 1 inch holds approximately 250 sheets (500 pages);
- HTSUS is approximately 2200 sheets (4400 pages);
- 19 C.F.R. Parts 0-199 is approximately 1100 sheets (2200 pages);
- Your total space requirement is approximately 3300 sheets or about 13.2 inches;
- This means you likely benefit from obtaining either two 5″ binders and two 3″ binders, or a catalog rack with 14 inch holding capacity.
Regardless of combination of your choice, please be mindful of 11 inches of binding space you would need for exam material.
Note on Obtaining Hard Copies of the Material.
Although CBP Examiners make electronic reference materials available, prospective examinees may prefer to use hard copies of HTSUS, Regulations, Directives, Forms, etc… on examination. We recommend to obtain paper copies of the material early, because you will need to make notes and markings as you study and prepare for the exam.
